Powerball and Mega Millions Combine to Make History

The Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots have both pushed past the $350 million mark ahead of the next round of lottery draws, making it the first time in history that America’s two biggest multi-state games have offered such large prizes simultaneously.

Mega Millions

The Mega Millions jackpot is the higher of the two at $393 million, which works out as $246 million in cash. The top prize has been growing since David Trapp won $61 million on 28th April with a ticket bought in Laguna Hills, California.

A larger Mega Millions jackpot has not been offered since a family from Hamilton County in Indiana won $536 million on 8th July 2016, and this could be the last chance to win such a big prize before the game switches to a different format for the draw on 31st October. The odds of winning the current jackpot are 1 in 258.9 million, which are better than they will be once the changes are made and also better than the chances of winning Powerball.

The Powerball jackpot stands at a gargantuan $356 million, having grown at a faster rate than Mega Millions since Jeff Lindsay landed $447.8 million on Saturday 10th June. Lindsay became the seventh biggest winner in the history of the game with his success and fans across the country will be hoping to emulate his success on Saturday night.

There have been four jackpot winners in 2017, compared to just three for Mega Millions, while hundreds of thousands of prizes are given away in each draw. The overall odds of winning a prize are just 1 in 24.9, and players can boost the value of non-jackpot prizes by adding the Power Play option.

When Will They Be Won?

Both jackpots could cross the $400 million barrier if they are not won this weekend, but players will be desperate to snap up the fantastic prizes now whilst they are available. You can get involved and give yourself a chance of winning by either visiting an authorised retailer in one of the participating states, or choosing numbers online. Good luck!
